In addition to the default programs and features within Windows, all campus computers will have the following installed:

Any other software must be requested via an educational program. This software can not be given to students for their personal machines.

Note – You can also download Microsoft Office for free to your personal computer.

HMS IT requires that all computers used on campus have basic security software installed.  Students may use their antivirus software of choice.  Some examples include:

  • On macOS, Avast is available for free.
  • On Windows 10, Windows Defender is installed by default and requires no configuration or subscription.  Optionally, Avast can be downloaded for free.

For assistance installing these applications, contact the HMS IT Service Desk.  HMS IT will provide a remote session to assist with installing the app. This generally takes 20-30 minutes to complete.

Microsoft OneNote

Microsoft OneNote is a commonly used note-taking app that is included with your HMS Microsoft 365 subscription. Exporting data from OneNote is challenging.

More information about exporting OneNote data is available in the Knowledge base article KB0011243.

HMS and HSDM use Zoom web meeting software for virtual classes and meetings. You can download the latest version of Zoom on their website.
