An HMS account is required to access HMS IT services like email, collaboration shares, wireless networks, research clusters, and MyHMS.

HMS accounts are automatically created for those with a Harvard University ID (HUID) issued by Harvard Medical School, the School of Dental Medicine, and the School of Public Health. Faculty and staff based at HMS-affiliated hospitals also qualify for an HMS account.

Your HMS account credentials consist of your HMS account ID and a password you set during activation.

Access after graduation

Graduates will lose access to resources in stages:

  • Immediately after graduation – Graduates lose access to Zoom, Harvard Library materials, VPN, Adobe Software, and Creative Cloud Storage.
  • 60 days after graduation – Graduates lose access to all other services that require an HMS account for authentication, except for Microsoft and Google services.
  • 365 days after the last day as an active student – As the HMS account is retired, former students lose access to Microsoft 365 email, calendar, ProPlus, SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Mail, Google Drive, and other Google Apps.
