Access HMS services with Duo Mobile while preparing for the transition to Okta Verify
The Duo Mobile app is a two-factor authentication (2FA) tool previously adopted by Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Harvard University for securing user sign-ins. Duo Mobile allows you to verify your identity quickly and securely through push notifications or verification codes on your mobile device.
Note – Duo Mobile is now a legacy system at HMS and Harvard University. We are transitioning from Duo Mobile to the Okta Verify app, offering enhanced security and ease of use.

Setting up Duo Mobile for HMS
- New users at HMS – After downloading Duo Mobile, contact HMS IT to continue your account setup. Reach HMS IT at 617-432-2000 or itservicedesk@hms.harvard.edu.
- Existing HMS users – If you already have Duo configured, continue using Duo Mobile to verify your identity when signing in to HMS services (for example, Microsoft 365 email or VPN) until instructed otherwise.
Transition to Okta Verify
HMS and Harvard University are actively transitioning to the Okta Verify app, providing a more secure and streamlined authentication experience. Duo Mobile will eventually be retired, and users are encouraged to set up Okta Verify proactively.
