The HMS IT Infrastructure group is comprised on Network, Storage as well as Web and Advanced Research Platform teams.

Network Team

The HMS Network team is responsible for providing wired, wireless, DNS services, VPN and network security to the HMS community. We provide 24/7 support for the network infrastructure. Our team of 5 is constantly working on ways to improve the network experience for the HMS community.

The HMS IT Infrastructure group also manages our Data Center environment.  We design and build highly available and physically diverse spaces to house the infrastructure that helps achieve the HMS mission.  Data Center network interconnects, power and cooling considerations, physical location of servers, storage and network devices, as well as capacity planning and disaster recovery are all things drive us.

Storage Team

The Storage Services Team provides multiple storage tiers residing on a variety of technologies  supporting numerous protocols including NAS, SAN, and S3 to the HMS community.  When appropriate, the Storage Services Team offers protection of the data through snapshots and replication to offsite locations.

Web and Advanced Research Platform Team

The HMS IT Web and Advanced Research Platforms (WARP) group serves the wider research community at Harvard Medical School. We provide services in two broad areas.

The Advanced Research Platforms ("Systems") team (formerly known as the West Quad Computing Group - WQCG) supports research lab Unix/Linux-based platforms, including design and maintenance of computational clusters, fileservers and Linux General Purpose and GPU workstations, as well as consulting services for Unix/Linux-based projects.  The WARP systems team works in close conjunction with other IT groups at HMS to ensure all of your advanced computing needs are met.

The Web Platforms team, in conjunction with the Office of Communications and External Relations (OCER), provides support for a wide array of HMS web properties, including the HMS flagship site (hms.harvard.edu), department/center/core sites, and lab websites. Services offered include hosting for self-managed websites, design, and development of websites to be hosted on one of our Drupal CMS platforms, and web consulting services.
