A Volunteer HSR is an individual, age 18 or older, who donates their time or services to support University activities. For example, Harvard Alumni Association club or Shared Interest Group volunteers, or volunteer guides at the Harvard Arboretum.

Process for setting up a Volunteer HSR

  • The department must first complete the following Volunteer Questionnaire and submit it to HR for review.
  • HR will confirm whether the volunteer classification is appropriate.
  • Only after HR approval can the volunteer be set up and granted access through an HSR.

Annual renewal requirement
Volunteer classifications require yearly approval. Before extending an existing volunteer HSR, the department must complete a new questionnaire and obtain re-approval from HR.
