HMS IT offers free repair for in-warranty, Harvard-owned, Apple and Dell computers, and HP printers.
What happens if my computer needs repair?
Harvard-owned laptop and desktop computers covered under the manufacturer’s warranty can be repaired by HMS IT technicians at no cost to you. Final warranty coverage is determined by the manufacturer.
For out-of-warranty repairs, HMS IT can repair your equipment with a departmental billing code (object code 6681) to cover the cost of parts. Departments are financially responsible for out-of-warranty repair parts; in most cases, there are no labor charges for work done by HMS technicians.
How long will a repair take?
Simple printer repairs requiring in-stock parts can take as little as a day. For computers, if parts are required, a repair can take one week or more.
Student and personal computer repair
Harvard University Information Technology partners with Computer Loft and Tech Computers Inc. to provide laptop and desktop repairs and upgrades for Apple and Dell computers personally owned by Harvard University students, staff, and faculty.
