Zoom computer generated live captioning

Zoom computer generated live captioning allows participants to see automatically generated captions and transcriptions of spoken audio in real time during a meeting or webinar. *These captions do not meet the accuracy requirements of Harvard’s digital accessibility policyas it applies to all public events.

To use Zoom’s computer generated live captioning feature:

  1. Go to harvard.zoom.usand sign in
  2. Click Settings, then scroll down to In Meeting (Advanced)
  3. Check Enable live transcription service to show transcript on the side panel in-meeting

Note: transcripts and captions are no longer saved by default. If you’ve been using this feature to allow your meeting participants to save captions and transcripts, you must switch it back on by toggling Allow participants to save fully closed captions or transcripts in your settings. Before enabling transcripts, please read about the appropriate uses of recordings and transcripts.

To learn more about how to enable these features please review this HUIT knowledge article for more information.

*Media Services works with a variety of third-party service providers and can help you find the best solution for enabling closed captioning services that meet Harvard's accessibility requirements. If you are interested in this service, please fill out this request form and select the Captioning Services option.
