Harvard Medical School provides email accounts to its faculty, staff, students, and certain guests to support the School's mission. These accounts allow access to various features like email, calendaring, contacts, and mailing lists. Email accounts are given based on your relationship with HMS and must be used according to Harvard University's policies.

Eligibility for faculty, students, and staff

HMS proactively creates email accounts for its staff, faculty, and students. However, changes in one's eligibility status, including retirement or separation from HMS, may impact the status of their email account.

Eligibility for guests and contingent workers
Some guests, LHTs, temps, and interns may be eligibleCriteria FormsFor those not automatically assigned an HMS email account, obtaining one may require pre-authorization and meeting certain criteria, such as an academic appointment or legitimate business need.
For guests to qualify for a Harvard Medical School (HMS) email account, they must first secure a Harvard Sponsored Role (HSR) and then an HMS account for guests. After an HMS account for guests is obtained, they must then formally request a guest email account.
Contingent workers — temporary employees, interns, or less-than-half-time (LHT) staff — must use the form for requesting an email account for temps, LHTs, and interns to request an email address.
