New security measures for FileMaker

As part of our efforts to enhance security, access to all HMS FileMaker servers will require a VPN connection with two-factor authentication (2FA) starting on Thursday, February 16, 2023. This will align the connection requirements across different versions of FileMaker, regardless of whether you are on or off campus. There will be no change for those already connecting to VPN to access FileMaker.

FileMaker will be unavailable on February 16 from 6:00–7:00 PM (EST-5) while we implement these security upgrades. If you are connected during this time, you will receive a notification before being safely disconnected.

To access HMS FileMaker databases after the upgrade, connect to the HMS VPN with 2FA (see instructions for macOS and Windows), then open FileMaker on your local computer as usual. This process will apply to all versions of FileMaker and databases.

After this upgrade, remotely accessing a computer (also known as remoting in) and running FileMaker on it will no longer work. After this upgrade, you must install and use the FileMaker application on your local computer. Contact your support team for help setting this up.
