Following a successful pilot, the Cold Storage service for research is now available to all labs with a primary or secondary faculty appointment in an HMS quad department.
Cold Storage is a low-cost way to keep inactive research data for a long time to meet data retention requirements. Data in Cold Storage must not be accessed or retrieved except in rare and unexpected circumstances.
There is currently no cost for eligible labs to use Cold Storage. HMS IT covers costs related to managing Cold Storage, including storage and transfer.
HMS IT will perform the actual data transfers to and from Cold Storage as we investigate options for self-service. Requests will be reviewed case-by-case to determine what data can be moved to Cold Storage.
Interested labs can apply to have data transferred to and from Cold Storage using the Cold Storage Request form.
You can find more information about Cold Storage on the Research Computing Storage page.
