Michael is the HMS Campus Information Security Officer (CISO) responsible for HMS information security and privacy strategies and architectures that align with the vision and goals of the HMS Information Technology (HMS IT) team in support of the HMS mission. Michael develops and implements the HMS information security program to address evolving global threats and risks, coordinating closely with Harvard University’s Chief Information Security and Data Privacy Officer.
Michael oversees the expanding research information security functions and establish an HMS security operations center to ensure HMS is as secure as possible, prepared for and alerted to active threats, and capable of responding immediately. He will also oversee information security compliance and governance.
A cyber-security thought leader in the health care and higher education fields, Michael leverages his strategy development experience to help ensure alignment and coordination with HMS and Harvard’s information security, data privacy, and risk management programs.
Michael comes to HMS from Texas A&M University, where he has served since 2018 as the chief information security officer, overseeing security, identity, IT governance, risk, and data management for all colleges and divisions of the University across the state. Prior to Texas A&M, Michael was VP of security and chief information security officer at Prime Healthcare, the second largest private healthcare system in the U.S., where he built and led a security and privacy organization spanning hundreds of hospitals and clinics across the nation. His prior experience includes leading security organizations and initiatives at General Electric (GE) Healthcare and Kaiser Permanente.
Michael earned an MBA and a PhD in transformational leadership and cybersecurity from Chapman University in California.
