Add your HarvardKey account to Okta Verify with FastPass on every device you use for Harvard work, including your computer.

Okta Verify with FastPass lets you confirm your identity with your fingerprint, face, or a PIN instead of typing your HarvardKey password. As of July 29, 2026, HMS staff must use Okta Verify with FastPass to sign in with HarvardKey. You can only sign in on a device that holds your HarvardKey account in the Okta Verify app. On any other device, you cannot sign in.

Add your HarvardKey account to Okta Verify with FastPass on every device you use for Harvard work: your computer, your phone, and any tablet.

Postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and affiliates move to Okta Verify with FastPass later.

What to do next

Open the Okta Verify app and look for an account listed as login.harvard.edu. Your next step depends on what you find:

  • The account is already in Okta Verify on at least one of your devices – Ensure FastPass is enabled, then transfer the account to your other devices. Turn on Bluetooth on both devices, then follow Set up Okta Verify on an additional device. In Okta, the two buttons you need are Export Account on the device that already has your account, and Import Account on the device you are adding.
  • The account is not in Okta Verify on any of your devices – You cannot complete this setup yourself. Contact the HMS IT Service Desk at 617-432-2000 or itservicedesk@hms.harvard.edu for help.

Duo Mobile no longer satisfies this requirement for HarvardKey sign-in.

If you are new to HMS, follow Set up Okta identity verification for new HarvardKey users instead.
