Updated account management interface

On November 4, 2023, HMS IT will be making enhancements to the interface to reset or unlock your HMS account ID. This service is available to HMS staff, faculty, and guests. HMS students are not eligible for this service; their accounts are provided by HarvardKey.

This interface update improves the usability and security for password resets, and account unlocking. Benefits include:

  • Streamlines HMS ID password reset/unlock procedures by sending a verification code to the end user.
  • Enhances data accuracy for recovery emails by prompting users to verify their alternate email addresses which are maintained in Harvard identity systems such as PeopleSoft and MIDAS.
  • Addresses potential issues related to Duo authentication by delivering verification codes to the user's email or phone.
  • Elevates the user experience by offering alternative methods for validating user identity
  • Increases security by sending the verification code to end user registered contact information (email or phone), requiring the user’s active participation in the authentication process.
