Use cloud computing for regulated research data
LASER-53 is a cloud-based environment for regulated research work that requires a platform that follows NIST 800-53 and FISMA Moderate. It includes shared security, monitoring, identity, and operations support for cloud-hosted work.
Eligibility
Available to principal investigators and authorized research teams.Principal investigators can request access to LASER-53 for eligible research projects. Faculty, staff, students, and other project members can use the environment if the approved project authorizes their access.
Eligibility depends on the data type, data use agreement, funding requirements, security requirements, and whether the work can be hosted in the cloud.
Security
Supports projects that require NIST 800-53 and FISMA Moderate controls.LASER-53 must be used for regulated research work that requires a cloud platform that follows NIST 800-53 and FISMA Moderate. Secure Research Computing staff will review the project's security and compliance requirements and recommend an appropriate LASER environment.
Capabilities
Run regulated research work in a cloud environment.LASER-53 is well-suited for:
- Cloud-based computing for regulated research projects
- Shared security, monitoring, identity, and operational services
- Configuration based on data and security requirements
- Support for research work that can be hosted in the cloud
Getting started
Request a meeting to assess project fit.Principal investigators can contact LASER_Help@hms.harvard.edu for guidance on LASER-53 and other LASER services. Secure Research Computing staff will review technical and security requirements and assess whether LASER-53 is the right LASER environment for the research project.
Service rates
Rates depend on project requirements and cloud resources.Pricing depends on the selected cloud resources, security requirements, and project scope. See Service costs in LASER-53 for more information.
