Add your HarvardKey account to Okta Verify with FastPass on at least two devices, such as your phone and your computer.

Okta Verify with FastPass lets you confirm your identity with your fingerprint, face, or a PIN instead of typing your HarvardKey password. Starting Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Quad-based faculty must use Okta Verify with FastPass to sign in with HarvardKey. This applies to faculty at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). From that date, you can only sign in on a device that holds your HarvardKey account in the Okta Verify app.

Add your HarvardKey account to Okta Verify with FastPass on at least two devices, such as your phone and your computer, before October 28.

HMS IT staff are contacting faculty whose setup isn't complete to help them. HMS staff moved to Okta Verify with FastPass on July 29, 2026, and HMS postdoctoral researchers moved on September 30, 2026.

What to do next

Open the Okta Verify app and look for an account listed as login.harvard.edu. Your next step depends on what you find:

  • If the account is already in Okta Verify on at least one of your devices – Ensure FastPass is enabled, then transfer the account to your other devices. Turn on Bluetooth on both devices, then follow Set up Okta Verify on an additional device. In Okta, the two buttons you need are Export Account on the device that already has your account, and Import Account on the device you are adding.
  • If the account is not in Okta Verify on any of your devices – You cannot complete this setup yourself. Contact the HMS IT Support team at 617-432-2000 or itservicedesk@hms.harvard.edu for help. HSDM faculty can contact HSDM support at support@hsdm.harvard.edu.

Duo Mobile no longer satisfies this requirement for HarvardKey sign-in.

If you are new to HMS, follow Set up Okta identity verification for new HarvardKey users instead.
