New Wi-Fi networks for the HMS community

HMS Information Technology has deployed a new, more secure, wireless platform with new wireless networks (SSIDs). This upgrade improves security, aligns our network with other Harvard institutions, and provides new features to the HMS community.

New Networks:

  • HMS Guest – for Harvard University visitors
  • Harvard Secure – the preferred wireless network when on any Harvard campus
  • eduroam – for secure access to local networks when visiting other institutions

We recommend that you configure your computer to connect to these networks ahead of time. You can set this up from anywhere; you are not required to be on campus.

These new networks will be available to anyone with an HMS ID (formerly known as an eCommons ID) connected to an email account with harvard.edu in the email address (like those ending in @hms.harvard.edu or @wyss.harvard.edu).

The existing HMS Private and HMS Public wireless networks will remain available until June 2021. A new wireless network, HMS Guest, will replace HMS Public to offer connectivity to visitors.

You can read more about how to connect to these networks on macOS or Windows in the HMS IT knowledge base.
