HMS IT is pleased to announce that Amir Karger has been promoted to Director of Research Computing. Amir's journey with HMS began in 2012 when he was hired as the first Research Computing Consultant at HMS, joining from Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, where he began his Harvard career in 2004. Over the past 20 years, Amir has continually demonstrated dedication, expertise, and a passion for advancing our research computing capabilities.
Amir holds a BA in Chemistry from Harvard and a PhD in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. This extensive background in science and computing has been invaluable to his work at HMS, where he seamlessly combines technical knowledge with a genuine desire to support scientific research.
Throughout his tenure, Amir has achieved numerous milestones. He has managed a team of Research Computing Consultants, supported consultation services around the HMS High-Performance Computing Cluster, and played a crucial role in connecting the HMS community to the research computing strategy at HMS IT.
In his new role, Amir will co-create and implement strategic plans for HMS RC services alongside other leaders who support research computing services and operations. He will oversee the research computing consulting and research data management staff’s continuing RC activities to engage with researchers and academic partners across the HMS research community. His leadership will be instrumental in driving forward our mission to support and strengthen world-class research at HMS.
HMS IT congratulates Amir Karger on this well-deserved promotion as he takes on this new and exciting challenge. Under his leadership, the Research Computing team will continue to evolve to meet the needs of our innovative community.
