Purchasing Software Licenses

On quad HMS/HSDM faculty and staff can purchase software at a reduced cost for use on Harvard owned computers. Software licenses are available from the Harvard Crimson Online Marketplace (HCOM). You must be an authorized purchaser to access HCOM. If you are not an authorized purchaser, you can learn more about HCOMarketplace here. In most cases, applications can be installed for you by your departmental Client Services Representative once you have acquired a valid license.

Office Productivity Software
  • Adobe applications such as Acrobat, DreamWeaver, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) as well as Visio and Project
  • Research analytic software such as MathWorks and SAS
  • FileMaker Pro desktop and server software
Microsoft Software

Harvard University has a multi-campus licensing agreement for Microsoft desktop applications and server software. Licenses are free, for use on Harvard owned computers, to on quad HMS/HSDM faculty and staff. Contact your HMS Client Services Representative or the HMS IT Service Desk at 617-432-2000.

SAS Business Analytics

The department of Health Care Policy manages SAS licensing for the Medical and Dental Schools. Send email to help@hcp.med.harvard.edu for more information and to arrange for software installation.

Other Software

Adobe, EndNote, FileMaker, operating system and virtualization software can be purchased through visit Harvard OnTheHub.com.

Adobe Creative Cloud Products

All HMS On-Quad faculty and staff with a Harvard.edu email who can provide an HMS 33-digit billing code are eligible to purchase licenses for Adobe Creative Cloud products.

Harvard affiliates and other Harvard schools should use their local purchasing process to acquire licenses.

New License Purchases

An Adobe ID with a Harvard email address is required to assign a license.

  • HMS Information Technology requires all software licenses to be assigned to Adobe IDs that use a Harvard email address.
  • Review instructions for creating or changing an Adobe ID.
  • An HCOM PO# is required in order to validate the license. Licenses cannot be validated without an accurate PO#. 
Annual License Subscription Renewals
  • If you are currently an Adobe Creative Cloud license holder, you are responsible for purchasing your new license in HCOM before July 31.
  • Faculty and staff are responsible for purchasing licenses using their departments internal purchasing process.

  • After you purchase a license, you must fill out the Adobe License Assignment Request form to have the license assigned to your Adobe ID.

  • All Adobe Creative Cloud product licenses are based on an annual subscription that runs from August 1 to July 31. All Adobe Creative Cloud product licenses expire on July 31 each year.
  • Licenses must be purchased by July 31 in order for the license to remain active. If you do not purchase a license by July 31, your current license will expire and revert to a 30- day trial license.
  • If you purchase a license after August 1, use the same Adobe ID to sign in. Your trial license will convert to a subscription license.
