Password Protection for Smartphones
On Tuesday, April 27, as part of the ongoing work to comply with the new Massachusetts regulations regarding data security, HMS Information Technology will be changing the password requirement policy on all mobile devices (Blackberry, iPhone, etc.) that access an HMS Email Account. The password requirement policy will ensure that a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) will be required to use the device. The device will be set to automatically lock after 5 minutes, after which time the PIN must be entered. Should you forget your PIN, please contact the HMS Information Technology Help Desk at 617-432-2000 in order to recover your PIN, as the device will be set to erase all data if the PIN is entered incorrectly 10 times in a row.
HMS IT is requiring a 4-digit PIN to help to prevent information on the mobile device from being accessed should it be lost or stolen. These efforts are to comply with the Massachusetts regulation 201 CMR 17.00 which specifies that all personal information must be safeguarded.
HMS IT will not be requiring mobile devices to be encrypted. However, our security policy does stipulate that users are responsible for encrypting personal information. For assistance in encrypting your mobile device please consult your Client Services Representative or the HMS Information Technology Help Desk at 617-432-2000.
